Hebden’s Happy Hounds will be back for a second year on Thursday 22nd August, a fun afternoon for you and your dog at Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge. This event is all about promoting responsible dog ownership and is being held in response to the growing concern surrounding dog fouling and irresponsible owners.
Running from 12noon until 3pm, the event is being held by Hebden Royd Town Council and Calderdale Council in partnership with RSPCA and promises to be full of fun with activities for all the family.

Happy Hounds

One of the most common complaints that the council receives is about irresponsible dog owners, not just in terms of dog fouling, but also about badly trained and poorly behaved dogs. However it is recognised that this is a minority of owners and the majority of responsible dog owners are getting fed up of being tarnished with the same brush.

As well as providing a source of information and education this event will highlight some highlight some of the very important roles that dogs play in our society from Dogs for the Disabled and Guide Dogs for the Blind, to Police Dogs. There will also be some great demonstrations from local dog trainers as well as training information…just how do you stop your four legged friends jumping up with their over enthusiastic greeting, eating out of the bin and taking you for a walk!

Part of being a responsible owner is ensuring that your dog is traceable. Every year thousands of dogs are lost and never reunited with their owners, Micro-Chipping can prevent this. Hebden Royd Town Council will be providing free Micro Chipping, delivered by the experts from the RSPCA for 90 local dogs (first come first served basis). Micro-chipping is a must for all dogs and provides a means to reunite them with their owners if they are lost, in an accident or stolen. It is hoped that dog owners will take advantage of this opportunity.

In addition, there will be fun for all the family with demonstrations, information, face painting, and children’s entertainment making it a perfect afternoon out, dog lover or not.
